Dr. Robert Thein has placed many dental implants for patients with varying dental needs and desires. If you are missing one or more teeth, you are probably a great candidate for dental implants. To help you see if you are a candidate, here is a list of some of the criteria that can affect that. While these are not absolute requirements, all of these issues need to be taken into account:
- Is in good, general health as supported by your physician.
- Possesses healthy teeth and gums as determined by your dentist.
- Does not suffer from autoimmune disorders and/or uncontrolled diabetes.
- Does not have an addictive habit of smoking.
- Is not undergoing cancer treatment.
- Maintains proper oral hygiene practices at home.
- Is willing to commit time before final results are seen.
- Contains sufficient bone density to support the implant.
- Is not currently taking medication that interferes with bone growth.
- Have suffered facial collapse.

Causes for Dental Implant Failure
If the procedure is done properly, dental implant placement is a highly predictable service. Cases of failure can often be traced to having a mouth with insufficient bone to support the implant. Fortunately, this problem can be solved with bone grafting, offered by Dr. Thein.
If there are other risk factors that could affect the success of your implants, Dr. Thein will discuss those with you, so that you can make an informed choice about whether or not to proceed.
Suffering from Facial Collapse? You Could Be a Great Dental Implant Candidate.
After having teeth extracted, your body begins to resorb the bone that is used to hold those teeth in. This shrinkage process begins right after the extractions and continues on for years. When people have had all their teeth extracted, the general shrinkage that occurs is very serious and will result, after a number of years, in not being able to hold a removable denture. This is a phenomenon that is called facial collapse. Visit our facial collapse page for more details.
The best way to deal with facial collapse is to prevent it with the placement of dental implants. But if you have already experienced this shrinking of the jaw, there are ways to treat it with either bone grafting or innovative dental implant placement techniques.
