Sleep dentistry is a lay term for sedation dentistry. It typically refers to oral sedation.
Dr. Robert Thein is trained to provide Glendale sleep dentistry. He gives you a prescription for oral triazolam, which you can take before your appointment. Triazolam will make you sleepy and relaxed, and can result in amnesia that causes you to even forget what happened during the appointment. As such, it is excellent for anxious dental patients.
The effect lasts for two to four hours.
You would need to have someone drive you to your appointment and take you home afterward, as you wouldn’t be able to drive while under the effects of triazolam.
Sleep dentistry with triazolam is very safe. It is conscious sedation, meaning that you aren’t unconscious. Therefore, your protective reflexes are still functional, and there is practically no effect on your vital signs, such as pulse or breathing. Still, as an extra safety precaution, Dr. Thein will be monitoring your vital signs with a pulse oximeter during the appointment
Dr. Thein has been practicing sleep dentistry for many years. In addition to this oral sedation, he can also offer I.V. sedation, which achieves a deeper level of sleep dentistry.
